The Peter P. Lamy Memorial Lecture

Philosophy

The Peter P. Lamy Memorial Lecture is a forum for the presentation of high level research and new developments in the study of aging and related health care issues. It honors Dr. Lamy, a pioneer in geriatric pharmacotherapy who dedicated his life to improving drug therapy for the elderly. In 1978, Dr. Lamy established the Center for the Study of Pharmacy and Therapeutics for the Elderly (CSPTE) at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, a forerunner to the Peter Lamy Center for Drug Therapy and Aging. Lamy was the author of numerous publications, including the landmark text and bestseller Prescribing for the Elderly.

Objectives

The Peter P. Lamy Lecture is given as part of the November Annual Meeting of ASCP. Areas of presentation would likely include findings published in prestigious, refereed journals, or scholarly publications for the lay audience including the following areas:

  • Important new findings on the impact of pharmacists in senior care
  • New discoveries in the aging process
  • New findings in the mechanisms of age-related disease and/or the impact on society

Likely presenters include scientific researchers or practitioners that research the fundamentals of the aging process or the mechanisms of diseases of aging; research the treatment of diseases of aging, or that document the impact of pharmacy in senior care.

Qualifications of Nominee

Nominees may be members or non-members of ASCP. Nominees will have made a significant contribution to the knowledge and/or evidence base of information on aging research or care through one or more of the following means:

  • A significant addition to the literature - scientific or lay
  • The development of an outstanding project; or
  • Progress in the development of federal or state legislation or regulations.

Nomination Process

Nominations are accepted each year. All members may nominate and nominations must be made in writing, and should include the curriculum vitae of the nominee, along with a narrative endorsement describing the qualifications of the candidate. Nominations must be received by ASCP no later than May 31st of each year and can be emailed to education@ascp.com
