Meeting Justification Toolkit

As our population shifts and the world continues to age, it’s more important than ever to attend top of the line continuing education that will assist healthcare professionals in improving the care of older adults. It’s also critical for professionals to make sure they’re staying on top of the latest healthcare trends and technologies, and that they’re networking with colleagues and others in the industry. ASCP’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition is a valuable event that gives attendees the education to prepare for these global changes and improve their businesses–in just three days.

ASCP understands that many travel budgets and continuing education budgets have been reduced which means that regardless of the merits of a meeting, you may need to justify the expense. Below are resources for you to download and use to justify this expense to your supervisor, as well as some additional items you may want to consider.

General Tips

  • Focus on what you will specifically bring back to your practice as return for the investment.
  • Offer to prepare and deliver a short presentation and Q&A to your colleagues to share what you learned. That way others in your practice will get the benefits of your attendance, too.
  • Share the syllabus and speaker handouts with your colleagues. As an attendee, you’ll have online access to materials posted by speakers.
  • If you are working to obtain or maintain your CPE designation, remind your supervisor that this i a great way to earn up to 16 credit hours and is less expensive than registering for separate conferences. It also requires less time away from the office.
  • Be ready with a plan that shows who will cover for you while you are attending the conference.
  • Be sure to check out the registration page where all the various rates are listed to see if you qualify for any of the lower rates or discounts, and make sure you take advantage of early bird registration.
